The music career of Shashl which has been associated with drama and the reputation of an incompetent musician who takes advantage of her father’s deep pockets and connections seems to have been revived with a project that not only proves her music talent but her ability to make good music without the aid of established names’ verses like her last project Highway. In a five track Extended Play titled Butterflies the songbird brings out the themes of love, hope, growth, and many other sub-themes that are popularly symbolized by butterflies in different cultures around the world.

Nemoyo which was produced by Dj Tamuka and Rodney Beats is a quick paced dancing track that touches the theme of love. The track is emphatic on falling in love and the act not being a bad thing to do. The song also serves as an advice to those who pretend to love people who they don’t love by making them imagine who one feels if it is done to them. The Deepisa hit-maker further delves into the of love by sharing a love story that turned out sour as a result of taking love for granted on the track Access.
Shashl who imbodies positivity as shown by how she has overcome the obstacles that have been thrown in her way attempts to pass it on unto others through this project. She does this so well on the track Alright which is a is monologue that serves as an emphatic reminder of staying hopeful no-matter the circumstances one might come across. Shashl carries her positivity to the track Watch Me which speaks of self-love and its importance in overcoming life challenges.
Shashl concludes Butterflies with an Amapiano sound track titled Dalla which she uses to bring the theme of joy. The track explores the importance of money and the joy that it brings by sending out an invitation to it through melody.
Shashl’s butterflies is a body of work that bears testament to the artist’s growth in her art and as a human being. The body of work released on the 21st of June 2024 is also proof that Shashl is indeed a name worth mentioning when it comes to female artists in the Zimbabwean Music industry.
